The 468 Focus - The Band Office

Its July 14, 2020 and during our half hour chat, Cindy Miller missed three phone calls and six text messages.  “And this is a slow day,” she laughs.

There’s zero free time, she’s on-call 24/7, and a most of her day is spent making sure everyone in the community is taken care of. Also? The work never ends.

If the job of Band Manager sounds a lot like motherhood, that’s because Cindy treats her position with the devotion and commitment of any matriarch.

She is quick to brush off the comparison or accept praise. “The best advice I ever got is to work hard and never expect your staff to do anything you’re not willing to do yourself. The team at Fort McMurray 468 First Nation works very hard, so I have to keep up with them,” says Cindy.
